My Home
My Home:
-
For 4 days in August, 2014 'My Home' was Mount Rainier. Where we climbed to the summit.
-
The map depicts my actual climb route as collected through a Garmin eTrex 20 personal GPS unit. The route polygon depicts our complete ascent and descent from Paradise-Camp Muir - the Crater Rim and back down again.
-
Waypoints along the route depict climbing breaks. B1-B4 indicate breaks while crossing the Muir Snowfield, H1-H3 indicate the high-breaks as we made our summit attempt. CR is the highest point attained on the trip at roughly 14,000 ft.
-
The map is layered with an orthophoto of the area, which makes it possible to see the route as it climbs through the cleavers (rockfields) on the mountain rather than through snow.
-
Contour lines were included on the map to make it more obvious that the route is uphill.
-
A hillshade layer is included at a very high transparency (70%), to give a slight sense of shape to the map. When layered with the orthophotos, the hillshade accentuates dramatic topography changes.
